Readers do not need an account. Search terms are sent to this website to find results. Queries can remain in your browser history.
Cloudflare and website delivery
Cloudflare helps deliver and protect this website. Requests pass through Cloudflare before reaching our server. Cloudflare may process connection and request information to provide these services. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for information about its data practices.
Website analytics
Since September 23, 2026, public reading pages use Cloudflare Web Analytics to help us understand which guides are read and how quickly pages load. A script from static.cloudflareinsights.com sends page and performance measurements to cloudflareinsights.com. Reports include page paths, referrers, browser and device categories, country-level location, page views and visits. These counts are not a count of distinct people.
We do not load this analytics script on search, contact, administration or analytics-preference pages. Cloudflare says Web Analytics does not log URL query strings or track individual visitors across its customers’ websites. Its documentation describes seven days of unsampled data and access to reports for the previous six months; older reports can be sampled. We may keep daily aggregate reports for longer to compare readership trends.
You can exclude this browser from analytics. This saves only an opt-out flag in your browser’s local storage, until you clear it or change the setting. It is not a visitor identifier. Editors use the same setting to exclude their checks. This preference does not stop the connection and security processing needed to deliver the website.
Guided checks and notes
Answers and comparison entries stay in the current browser tab. Reloading clears them. Downloaded notes are saved by your browser.
Contact messages
Submitting the contact form stores your name, email, subject and message in the content database so an editor can read them. A hashed network address is temporarily used to limit repeated submissions. Do not send passwords or unredacted network reports. This form saves messages for the editor and does not send email.
Editor accounts
The management area stores a password hash and uses an HttpOnly session cookie that expires after eight hours. Account credentials and login sessions are kept separately from content backups. Publishing activity is recorded for version history.
Operator and hosting
This site is operated by PC Fieldnotes. The website and its content database are hosted on a VPS in Los Angeles, United States. Hosting providers may maintain operational network logs.
Contact and retention
Messages remain in the editorial database and content backups until removed by the operator. For questions, corrections, or a data-removal request, use the contact form. Reference websites have their own privacy practices. Any future advertising services or material analytics changes will be described in this notice.
